Chin Implant
People often underestimate the impact that a well projected chin has on facial beauty. In fact, the chin is an integral part of an attractive face. Some of the traits of facial beauty include high cheek bones and a long, triangular appearance to the lower face. A well-defined chin can help achieve this appearance. A lack of chin projection can make the nose look larger and the neck look more saggy and less defined. A projected chin also conveys confidence and strength.
A chin implant is a fantastic option when considering cosmetic surgery on the face or neck. Some patients choose to do a chin implant as an isolated procedure. More commonly, patients will choose to do a chin implant in combination with other cosmetic procedures. These procedures include face lifts, neck lifts, liposuction of the neck, fat transfer, brow lifts, and laser resurfacing.
The chin implant can be done under local anesthetic, IV sedation, or general anesthetic. The simplest option is local anesthetic. There are different types of chin implants. Dr. Miller prefers silicone due to reliability of results. The procedure takes about thirty minutes and involves a small incision in a well-hidden fashion underneath the chin. Swelling, bruising, and scarring typically last for one-two weeks. Patients may experience mild, temporary numbness of the lower lip. Mild discomfort is controlled with oral pain medication.
